Marketing Tips Part 8: Facebook Ad Targeting

Facebook gives you lots of cool audience targeting options that I haven’t seen anywhere else:

  • ad campaign objectives
  • gender
  • age
  • location
  • interests
  • demographics
  • income level
  • career
  • education
  • custom audience
  • lookalike audience
  • connections to your page
  • friends of connections to your page
  • languages
  • behaviors
  • device
  • technology
  • shopping habits
  • small business owners
  • gamers
  • relationship status
  • family details
  • life events
  • anniversaries
  • etc.

But what’s very interesting is the “suggestions” feature and the boolean logic operators you can include: “Or,” “And,” and “Not.”

This means you can slice and dice all this data any way you want: unions, intersections, complements, etc. (set theory).

So if you know your audience well (and you should), you should be able to drop an offer right in front of your ideal customers. Try it out and see.

To set up your “and” requirements click on “Narrow Further” link and add categories under the “and must also match” sections that show up.

Each subcategory you add to a given section becomes an “or” requirement. (You can see it all spelled in English with the “and” and “or” spelled out out after you save it.)

So there you go. Show dirt cheap ads to the whole world if you want to. Bonus points if you optimize for conversions.

P.S. The “narrow further” link will be at the bottom of the audience targeting section. Gotta scroll down to see it.
